GEICO Internship
During my graduate work, I spent 10 weeks working as a UX/UI Intern on the GEICO Digital Experience Team. I completed this internship as part of the requirements for a Master of Science in Human-Computer Interaction at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.
Projects
Life Insurance Re-design
For the largest project I worked on over the summer, I collaborated with another intern, as well as internal and external project teams, to work on re-designing a specific set of webpages. The highlights of the project included:
Used Sketch to create mockups that aligned the existing pages to the GEICO design kit
Received feedback from the design team and project team and made adjustments as needed
Designed a usability study
Created a high-fidelity, interactive prototype using Axure RP
Conducted moderated remote usability testing
Analyzed test sessions
Compiled recommended changes based on the findings
UX Research Projects
Add/Replace Vehicle
Our team conducted a usability study to determine where and why users were abandoning the flow when adding or replacing a vehicle on their policy using the GEICO mobile app. On this project, my responsibilities included:
Assisting with creating usability test plan
Creating interactive, high-fidelity prototypes for both iOS and Android using Axure RP
Assisting with analyzing results
Commercials Web page
I conducted research to determine if a new design of the GEICO Commercials page met users’ expectations. Over the course of this project, I was able to:
Review the prototype of the proposed design with the UI designer
Plan and run an unmoderated usability study
Analyze the results of the user tests
Compile a report showing the findings from the testing and recommended changes based on the results
Present the results and recommendations to the project team
UI Design Projects
In-App Promotions for the GEICO Alexa Skill for Android and iOS.
In-App Alexa Skill Promotion
Project Goal: Add a section to an existing promotions page in the mobile app.
Requirements:
Promote GEICO’s Alexa Skill, and demonstrate how customers could use it
Fit into the style of the rest of the page
Follow both iOS and Android standards
Comply with the existing company design kit
The design, layout, and illustration style followed the rest of the sections on the page. I used Adobe Illustrator to create the illustrations of the Echo products, and laid out the full designs in Adobe XD.
